Life becomes a little sweeter and a little more special when we see it’s impermanence and one time offerings. It will never be like this again. Observing where we place our attention helps to ease the anxiety with life and death. Enjoy the big and little moments when they come - breathe it all in and be with it. I love the little bug hanging out on the petal. It’s doing it’s part to help the eco system evolve. It will be a meal for some larger animal, insect or arachnid; in turn the larger animal will make manure that helps the soil grow and plants bloom. Any fear I have ever had about dying dissolves when I observe this process. When we see that we are not separate from any of it...that we are all a part of it - the magic of being begins. Only the mind thinks it is separate...when in truth the mind simply holds conditioned repetitive vibrations called thoughts that stem from the ultimate source some call God, spirit, Brahman, Atman, etc. When we get still, we see this more clearly. We can also help others heal by being still with them. Perhaps this weekend, hold a friend or clients hand with their permission. Share longer hugs with one another. Look at more people in the eyes. It’s worth it.
THE HUMMINGBIRD by D.R. Sing sweet hummingbird, Sing the whole day through. Fly about the tops of trees, And sip the morning dew. Flash your shiny colors bright, And hum your lovely tune. Sing sweet! Dear hummingbird; For dusk will greet us soon. 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 Yesterday mornings, I found these beautiful hummingbirds buzzing about the front yard. I sat for about 30 minutes with my eyes closed listening to them. Grateful for the time I had to listen to their wisdom. Never take life...or a life for granted. Grace with all. If you love hummingbirds like I do, follow @thehummingbirdphotographer; Meagan is amazing with her image captures.
Sometimes you just gotta make bubbles! 😂😂😂 Yoga comes in many forms and to me it simply means being present with the breath and the body at any given moment, with whatever it is that I am choosing to do; whether it is teaching, cooking, driving, practicing, playing music, hanging with @seashells_life, playing with her kids, making art, or in this case; making giant frickin’ bubbles! By being present with the breath and body, the heart is more open and available to serve others as needed. Life isn’t taken so personally anymore. Rather, we see the work that needs to be done and lovingly handle the details without the attachment of personhood or entitlement. To be a slave to the mind is no way to live out a life fully. Living in the head, leaves no room for growth and can be caustic to oneself and others over time. Tension headaches and migraines are physical manifestations of mind related trauma/attachment. Reach out if you need help bringing some joy back into your day to day living and need a little stress management. One day - it my is my hope to make bubbles for Congress OR to perhaps lead them through a meditation. I’m good with either way. #bubblesforcongress2020 😂😂😂 #giantbubbles #bubbles #bigbubbles #yoga #almostforty #smile #everydayjoy #yogapractice
THE POPPY by D.R. It has come to my attention, that the Earth is always raising, it’s many many hands, in many many ways, in mini mini ways, in many mini waves. Wave upon wave, Waving in the wind, Moved by the breeze. Waving at the end. Hands that reach upwards, to touch the suns light. Hands that close, Towards the eve of each night. And when the hands can’t reach upwards anymore... Something phenomenal happens. A silent explosion of light pops to fill the void, And a blossom gets called upon to share it’s silent answer with the world. 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺 Found these beautiful Poppy’s at the Wayfarer’s Chapel in Palos Verdes. Flowers have been inspiring me a lot lately. Their design is something to admire, gaze upon, and appreciate. What they attract is just as beautiful. 💚🙏🏽☺️
Our beautiful moon last night...12 July 2019. It’s been with the Earth as civilizations have risen and fallen and I suspect it is still in it’s infancy. Life as we know it, hangs in an ever changing state of balance. I feel it is worth a few moments; at least in this life time, to stop and see it as it is - to let it set in for just a few deep breaths. Life as we know it is a phenomenal happening. The distance from the sun, the speed in which our planet rotates, it’s axis, the Earth’s mass, the elements that make up this planet, our proximity to the moon, how the elements assimilate, our gravitational relationship to other planets, the nature in which they bond, how they all come together and separate under different temperate conditions. IT is all connected. It is what puts the bodies together and breaks it apart. It is what puts the mind together too. Nothing and no thing is fully separate. Life is a miracle of miracles. Knowing that I am a part of something so vast allows me to feel grateful for each and every moment I am in this body. Billions of years of evolution all coming together to converge and share at this single moment in time. The gift really is the present. Moment after moment it is THIS right now. IT is miraculous. Time spent with others becomes more special because all we have are these unique never repeated moments. The Miracle of individual cells of different shapes and sizes working together in ways to show us things through our senses...to help us navigate to our next passage, to see life being created, to see life happening, and of course to see life breaking down - too form something different. Life is always under the influence of the ever present IS’ness. It’s never the same. Change is the constant. Earth is a happening place. I rest well at night knowing that I have a choice to contribute to this space and time in loving, heart felt, and help filled ways. 😴💚🙏🏽 Did you know that the moon only rotates around it’s axis every 27 days? #moon #moonphases #moonphoto #moonphotography #yoga #connection #mindbodysoul #moonsovermyhammy #dennysreference #prana #pranayama
Good Morning Mourning Cloaks! I love these little butterflies, they are quite friendly and not too shy, especially the males. You can tell it’s a male butterfly because it has butterballs. 😂😂😂jk This one was in the front garden. If we plant more flowers, we’ll see more of them around. They love sap from trees, Yarrow, Milkweed, and Black-Eyed Susan’s. Their coats and colors may seem drab to the human eye...but their iridescent brown coat tells a different story under ultraviolet light. Under an ultraviolet spectrum - these little butterflies are quite dazzling. There is so much the human eye doesn’t see due to it’s chemical molecular make-up; we only get a small glimpse. They communicate to one another through ultra-high frequency sounds, chemical pheromones, body language, and color. This little one perched on my hand for a little bit before fluttering off to sip more nectar. The last image is of a female Mourning Cloak. If you zoom in, you can really see their distinguishing head features. Due to the late spring weather, the temperatures have been much cooler therefore their lifecycle has been extended. The average life of a Mourning Cloak is 10 months. Take away: life is short, don’t miss these beautiful creatures. The Mourning Cloak is named after the brown mourning robe people would wear after a passing. I saw this as a beautiful sign this particular day. They are native to North America and parts of Europe and can survive temperatures as low as -35F. Pretty incredible for any animal let alone an invertebrate. #mourningcloak #marco #macrophotography #butterfly #outdoorlife #gardenlife #butterflies #igbutterfly #insect #insectlife #spendtimeinnature #insectworld
MOONLIGHT by D.R. Does the moon make a sound as it moves through space? For such a large mass - it’s silence is only eclipsed by the sun. My dear star light, Oh sweet moon beam - forever is the infinite day when kissed by the immeasurable brilliance of your heart. 🎆🎇💚🙏🏽☺️ Photo of the 4th of July Crescent Moon. I love to stare at the stars and moon at night. Should I go blind from looking...I’ll always have the memory from the times I stopped to look up and breathe. #breathe #moon #crescentmoon #poetry #lookup
UPCOMING SOUND BATHS Much gratitude for my friend @yogibobby for letting me sub his classes while he is traveling over the next month! Yesterday’s practice was a gentle flow, combined with long holds, and focused breath work to the sound of crystal bowls. If you have never heard crystal bowls, check them out; I’ll be bring them to my Tuesday night meditation this upcoming week. Moving the body to live, sustained sounds and vibrations adds an extra level of release and relaxation. Below is a list of upcoming public Sound Baths and opportunities to experience the work I have been offering over the past 3 years: 1. July 21st at 7pm-830pm @pullandthread in Torrance. 2. July 27th at 2pm-3:30pm @revealwellness in Palos Verdes. 3. July 27th at 7pm-8:30pm @yogaloftmb in Manhattan Beach. 4. Aug 3rd at 6pm-7:30pm @riffsyogastudios_ob in San Diego I will be traveling to Hawaii in August to study Sound Therapy and Meditation for 10 days - looking forward to camping in the rainforest and studying with some world class teachers. 💚🙏🏽☺️ Thank you to all of my friends, families, and supporters who have watched this practice take-off and grow. If you would like to come as a guest to one of these events...I am usually given 1-2 guest spots from the venues and studios that I teach and share at. All love - thank you all for being in my life. #soundbath #soundhealing #soundtherapy #soundjourney #soundhealer #music #livemusic #acoustic #therapy #vibrations #goodvibes #goodvibrations #chakya #holistichealing #present #mindfulness #meditation #mindfulnessmeditation #yoga #yogateacher #sandiego #manhattanbeach #palosverdes
THE PELICAN by D.R. Take flight with the current, That sweeps beneath wings. Float up to the clouds, Where the sunlight sings. Skim down above waves, Moved only by flow, Gliding with ease, An effortless show. Dive fast with a tuck, And shallow bright splash, Scoop into the seas, Before the fish dash. Up for a breath, And a bill full of food; Now off to the nest, To feed the brood. 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 I love pelicans. I saw this one searching for food in the marina area of Redondo Beach, doing laps in the sky. I can watch them ride along the waves of the ocean all day. They fly with an effortlessness; moving with the ever so subtle thermal pressures that create lift. They have perfected the art to feeling into a subtle yet invisible/unseen force. Their sensory perception is off the charts - extraordinary animals. They are a very friendly creature when we honor their space on approach. A friendly reminder about ocean pollution. Many fish that the pelicans dine on; mistakenly eat the raw trash that flows into the oceans. As a result; the pelican unknowingly eats the fish that has been swallowing micro plastics, cigarette butts, bottle caps, fishing lines/lures, etc. This isn’t just exclusive to pelicans. Some sea birds mistake the plastic itself for food. The birds aren’t dumb; they don’t know better. It’s nice to see legislation coming down about plastics and elimination of single use items. It’s time. I do my best with not using single use items; and I am getting better at it. If you need some help, I am happy to share some tips that can be used for yourself or the whole family. Much love friends! 💚🙏🏽☺️ #pelicans #thepelicanbrief #pelican #redondobeach #redondobeachpier
We are all floating through life, equipped with with only what we know and what we feel. Be kind and loving to all...see if that changes some things. Invisible “forces” beyond our senses and beyond thought forms are always at play...what we don’t see in this photo is the spider web suspending the flower in space. 💚 There is always more than meets the eye. The eye is just one of many gateways in which we connect. Getting still, being present, and breathing deep from time to time helps us discover this simple truth. “Mindfulness practice means that we commit fully in each moment to being present. There is no “performance.” There is just this moment. We are not trying to improve or to get anywhere else. We are not even running after special insights or visions. Nor are we forcing ourselves to be non-judgmental, calm, or relaxed. And we certainly are not promoting self-consciousness or indulging in self-preoccupation. Rather, we are simply inviting ourselves to interface with this moment in full awareness, with the intention to embody as best as we can an orientation of calmness, mindfulness, and equanimity right here and right now.” -Jon Kabat-Zinn-Zinn
If you practice meditating long enough...you too can grow a pineapple on your head! 😂🍍😑#allorganic #itsnotcannibalismifyoueatit #yogaismorethanasana There are all sorts of wild assertions in and throughout mindfulness practices. I don’t at all discount them; because there is a lot unknown; but I do find value in understanding the source of the assertion. The best way to check these assertions is to consider the reliability of the source, to fact check it with completed studies, to research and ask in-depth questions, and to practice what is being taught for a while to see if the claim is actually true. Personal experiential evidence with periodic journaling is always quite helpful. Two great websites I visit regularly for basic research on studies are PubMed and the National Center for Biotechnology Information. It’s as simple as doing a search on a reputable engine search and include one of the keywords as “study.” I also try to do a little background research of the study too in order to see who is funding the study...as that can bait the results. The abstracts on the studies typically give a brief breakdown of the paper - although I still suggest reading the entire paper. Also...when my barometer for B.S. goes off, I visit a website called “Snopes” to see if a claim is true or not. For those that like entertainment “The Amazing Randi” on YouTube is awesome to watch as he challenges the claims of absurd assertions. We live in a world where there is equal information as well as disinformation, people want your money and attention; especially through social media and news outlets. It’s better to take the time to see if what is being shared is valid or invalid so you don’t waste your time, energy, and overall sanity. I have made the mistake in the past - it’s great for personal growth. Reach out if you hear an odd claim; I’d love to check it out.
Your glow is what makes you so special. Feed the light within and light-up the world around you. 💚🙏🏽☺️
This is a male Fiery Skipper...it’s a type of butterfly that lives in Southern California. They are very quick. Fiery Skippers hang out on succulents, sip on flowers, play amongst the dandelions, and flutter beneath the Angels Trumpet. Life is good for this little dude. He started out life as an egg, hatched into a larva, grew into a caterpillar, built a chrysalis, dissolved, transformed and is now a full blown butterfly. Fortunately for us...he took a little break out of his busy mating schedule to pose for a photo. Such incredible eyes and feelers (antennae). Their antennas help with finding food. At the end of each antennae is a club that contains thousands of sensilae or sense pores. These help with smells, flight, locating certain flowers, and nectar availability in the flower. In the first photo we can also barely see its tongue curled up (probiscis). I love nature...it’s design which took millions of years to make is mind blowing and amazing. This one fearlessly crawled onto my finger for a few moments to hangout after I was done taking photos. 💚🙏🏽☺️
Found this beautiful Paper Wasp yesterday down by the beach. It let me get a few shots in while it posed for the camera. Check out the second photo...the three dots on the top of it’s head are said to be light sensors. They help it navigate in darkness and shade. If you zoom in on the second photo...you can also see the grid in which they see through. Show your kids...it really helps children to not disregard or dismiss nature so quickly just because something has a stinger or is viewed lower on a categorical chart. The truth is...we forget humans have stingers too...they are called words if they aren’t chosen carefully. While I realize that we look at them as mere insects and pests...they are highly adaptable, agile, and helpful beings. I watched this one for about 5 minutes. If you have a garden...wasps are helpful because they eat caterpillars which often times destroy vegetation. Wasps provide a certain balance in nature when we step back and look at it. I love to witness the balancing act. #wasp #queen #photoreceptors #insect #insecteyes #paperwasp
Yoga can be an opportunity to experience our bodies from the heart or the mind, you can try both at your own pace and intensity, and see which feels more natural for you. On the way back from Vegas near Kelso...the sun was setting behind the mountains in the Mojave Desert. How could I not just soak it all in? Barefoot, bare chest, big smile, free spirit, and so much more...grateful for moments like these. Life is a blessing. Incredible weekend teaching and sharing meditation, awareness, and sound healing work in Las Vegas @yogasanctuarylv. Frank and I will be visiting again in the Fall. Thank you everyone for all the love and support with this vision and practice as it continues to grow at a steady and loving pace. 💚🙏🏽 #yoga #soundhealing #peace #meditation #yogaismorethanposes #yogaismorethanasana #sunset #smile #breathe #yogi #yogateacher #freedom #yogainspiration #yogalife
All things open, change, and transform with time. Being present and aware of the breath is one way to observe and connect with the opening, changing, and transformation process. The best way to experience this truth is to take a few minutes, try it, and see for oneself. The more we practice...the more we see. #breathe
Do ALL things with love. 💚 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 I saw this beautiful reminder at @violettesveganlv yesterday while eating brunch in Las Vegas. Such an incredible weekend of workshops, family, rest, and amazing food!
