i feel as raw and exposed as this jagged shoreline most days. but it is so beautiful to feel so fully human. and to be surrounded by people who aren’t afraid of our humanity, but fully embrace the absurdity of it all.
Happy earth day from my plants and I! 🍃 Swipe for some based reading from @tanehisipcoates ‘s amazing book; Between the World and Me. Earth day is a lovely day to celebrate the earth, eat a vegan meal, post a pretty landscape pic from your last hike. Those are all fun and comfortable ways to honor the earth, but it’s important to consider how tangible those efforts are. In what ways are those comfortable actions challenging the status quo and it’s affect on the earth? Today I urge you to honor the earth with discomfort. The truth of our relationship (as members of the 1st world and global 1%) with the earth is not as pretty or comfortable as a photo of a skyline. Take time to learn about and honor the indigenous people in our country, who have been almost completely erased. They once lived in abundant, sustainable, harmony with the earth, before having their land stolen and exploited by white-settler colonialism. To this day indigenous people are suffering in scarcity, despite this very land that we take for granted having once provided plentiful nourishment for them. Learn more abt this topic and find ways to financially support them: @lilnativeboy @indigenousrising Take time to learn about how global climate change disproportionately effects those in the global south, and how us in the west are entirely responsible for this, yet not taking accountability. Our ability to go on lovely hikes in national parks, all of the vegan food we get to eat, all of the sustainable fashion we can purchase - is in violent contrast to the absolutely horrendous living conditions and scarcity of those in the global south - who have constantly had their land and bodies plundered in the name of profit. This is the reality of the earth we live on, there is no separation between the earth and the humans that inhabit it. Our exploitation of the earth is directly tied to the exploitation of the people who live on it. Honor those people, honor the earth. #earthday #climatejustice
Nothing really belongs to me or any of us existing on a borrowed planet within a borrowed timeline that will inevitably descend into oblivion my body was grown fragile flesh from warm womb a womb ultimately sown from the seeds of the earth from the soil to which i will return in a blink my sentience just a flicker of finite light in this infinite universe my sentience just a mutation with a life long sentence victim or heir to centuries of human idea language consolidated into culture culture into thought and with those unpossessed thoughts - my pain is not my own it’s is generational passed through the family bloodshed & shared passed through this culture of pressure held down by dominant force passed through our humanity the burning feature of a thinking and feeling animal forced to comprehend a life defined by endless dichotomy calm to chaos pain to pleasure life to death and with this sentiment i release my (transient) Self from the burden of possession and choose to occupy my life as the observer
