Pollen-covered⠀ Western Honey Bee (Apis mellifera)⠀ Cades Cove - Great Smoky Mountains National Park (August 9, 2019)⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO VOTE! (See previous post.)⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ This has to be one of the hardest shots I've ever tried to get. I've tried for a couple months now to get a good photo of a honey bee doing honey bee things, but those little buggers just don't sit still. Even on flowers, it's bouncing from one place to another without stopping for a breath. I'm still not as happy as I could be, as I clipped the wing, but I love how you can see the individual specks of pollen dusting the bee. These bees are crucial pollinators, but recently, they've been in decline. This is mainly due to pesticides that can kill off an entire hive. They are crucial to food production, but most importantly, what would we ever do without honey!? Put that on some hot biscuits or cornbread, and you'll have a good day. Just #savethebees, y'all!⠀ ⠀ Feel free to share and check out my page.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #greatsmokymountains #smokymountains #friendsofthesmokies #findyourpark #cadescove #national_park_photography #nationalparkgeek #865life #visitmysmokies #surftennessee #nationalparklife #instagramtennessee #onlyintennessee #naturephotography #canonphotography #canonusa #photooftheday #picoftheday #igdaily #instadaily #lifeisgood #nature #macro #pollinator #insects_of_our_world #invert_macro #honeybee #bee #pollen
